Ephemeral Echoes
Project type
Digital / Film Photography and Lumen Printing
Date
2024-2025
Lumen printing is a photographic process that uses light, time, and organic materials to create imagery that’s often unpredictable and atmospheric. I apply substances like lemon juice onto light-sensitive paper, then expose it to sunlight, allowing unique colors and textures to develop. To build more complexity, I layer a transparent negative of an imagined photograph over the paper. This step blends the real with the invented, creating unexpected depth. Once exposed, I scan the prints to preserve their evolving tones—sometimes refining the image in the darkroom before enhancing it digitally. The result is a transformation: from subtle impressions to saturated, expressive images that explore presence, memory, and change.
These photographs are an extension of me, with each color reflecting the vibrancy and contradictions within my personality. The physical process of creating them mirrors the emotional and spiritual transformation that comes with learning and experience. Every exposure, every reaction on the paper, becomes a metaphor for the way my thoughts, emotions, and wishes — both good and bad — manifest into reality. Through this work, I explore what it means to experience life. Sometimes, it feels like everything. Other times, it feels like nothing at all. That back and forth, that uncertainty—that’s just life.
